Semi-Fowler's position or higher if tolerated. Semi-Fowler's position or higher (if the resident can tolerate it) is most appropriate as it mimics normal toileting position and promotes normal elimination. Flat positioning is uncomfortable and makes elimination difficult. Side-lying or prone positions are inappropriate for bedpan use and are uncomfortable for the resident.
